At just eleven years old, Amara carried a dream that seemed to be slipping further away each day. She wanted only one thing—to continue her education.

Every morning she walked to school wearing worn-out shoes while quietly wondering whether she would ever make it to secondary school. Her family loved their children deeply, but poverty meant every meal and every school expense required impossible choices.

As her Common Entrance Examination approached, the registration fees remained unpaid. One evening her father gently explained that another child might have to be given the opportunity instead.

"She has gone to primary school already. Let the others have their turn first."

Those words broke her heart. That night she cried quietly, believing her education had reached its end.

Everything changed during SHE Foundation's International Day of the Girl Child Celebration 2025.

Through the newly launched Education Grant and Bursary Scheme, vulnerable girls were entered into an open lottery for educational support.

When Amara's name was announced, she could scarcely believe what she was hearing.

The Foundation immediately settled her outstanding school fees, enabling her to register for and sit her Common Entrance Examination. Beyond that, SHE Foundation supplied the essential items required to begin secondary school, lifting a tremendous burden from her parents.

For the first time in months, uncertainty gave way to confidence.

Today Amara proudly attends secondary school.

Her old shoes have been replaced by hope.

Her fear has been replaced by ambition.

Her story reminds us that the difference between a child leaving school and a child pursuing her dreams is often not ability—it is opportunity.

On 11 October 2025, SHE Foundation commemorated International Day of the Girl Child with an impactful event in Delta State, in partnership with Augustine Manuel Charity Foundation.

The event brought together over 360 students and pupils from seven schools, while remaining open to girls beyond the participating schools. This inclusive approach ensured that the celebration reached a wider community of girls and created a safe and empowering space for them to learn, connect, and feel valued.

During the event, our partner, Augustine Manuel Charity Foundation, identified seven children whose school uniforms were torn, worn out, and no longer suitable for school. What began as an observation became an opportunity to respond to an immediate need affecting the children’s dignity and ability to attend school confidently.

"At the end of the event, what stood out was more than the celebration itself—it was the fulfilment of a promise to support girls in practical and meaningful ways."

The intervention demonstrated an important principle at the heart of SHE Foundation: every girl matters, and empowerment goes beyond words. Sometimes, creating change means recognising a need, responding with compassion, and ensuring that a child can return to school feeling confident, valued, and supported.

For the seven children, the event became more than a celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child. It became
